Today before I went into the office I was watching my local news channel and saw that a company was sued for thousands of dollars because their website was not ADA compliant.
Turned out a woman in Miami was going around looking for sites that are not ADA compliant, then files a lawsuit against the company for hundreds of thousands of dollars. I’m not going to weigh in on what I think is happening but what the man who was sued said made me cringe.
His lawyers said you can’t fight this, either pay up or risk losing your business.
This made me think because I didn’t even know a website could be ADA compliant at all. I know that computers offer accessibility functions and I was under the impression that’s what people with disabilities used – I was WRONG!
They said ignorance doesn’t excuse you from the compliance. If you are a business your website must also meet ADA compliance just as a store front must.
For me that was a scary news piece but I am so happy I was there to view it because I learned something from it; and I believe anytime I learn something good or bad, it makes me a better person because I am more educated.
Knowing what I know now I completely agree that if it’s possible to enhance something to make it easier for someone to enjoy then it should be done. Without hesitation we started to work our magic and make Gladdy’s Goodies compliant with the ADA.
We’re proud to say we found the option that makes us compliant so our friends can have a great experience when they visit our website. This technology can be accessed on any page of our website. Simply click the blue button to the right side of the page and it will unlock a variety of options for people with various disabilities.
Since our discovery of the ADA compliance for websites we want to make sure everyone out there that owns a business and has a website makes their site complaint too, why? Because we don’t want anyone to get sued and we want to make sure that their customers/clients get the most out of their visit to their site as well.
Sometimes we forget that our website is the same as a full store front. The reason we forget is that it’s always there and for the most part it doesn’t have a staff to run it. However every time someone comes on they are looking to buy your product or service just like at a storefront of office so why should it be any different.
